Oles and Dufort named McGill athletes of the week

Leslie Oles of Beaconsfield, Que., and Vincent Dufort of Smiths Falls, Ont., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Dec. 30. 2012.
Oles, a 5-foot-2 forward with the women's hockey team, scored five goals and assisted on four others in three games, each of them come-from-behind victories, as McGill captured the Laurier Invitational Holiday Tournament in Waterloo. The 21-year-old physical education junior tallied two shorthanded markers, both of them game-winners in the first two contests. She registered five points, including a pair of goals, in a 6-4 win over Guelph on Dec. 28, then scored twice with an assist in a 4-3 decision over the Kitchener-Waterloo Rangers (Dec. 29) and added a goal in a 4-3 victory over no.5-ranked Laurier. Oles, who leads the team with a 25-25-50 record in 23 games overall, attended Kuper Academy before enrolling at McGill in 2010.
Dufort, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound shooting guard with the basketball Redmen, was named to the all-tournament team at Ryerson's National Invitational Tournament, where McGill posted a 1-2 record. Over the three games, the 20-year-old physical education sophomore tallied 34 points and a tourney-leading 28 rebounds, in addition to seven assists, four blocks and three steals. He shot 47.6 per cent from the floor (10/21), went 2-for-5 from three-point range and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. Dufort, who joined the Redmen in 2011, is a product of Smiths Falls District Collegiate Institute.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
