Plante and Vachon named McGill athletes of the week

Genevieve Plante of Montreal and Marc-Olivier Vachon of Thetford Mines, Que., of Thetford Mines, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Jan. 6. 2013.
Plante, a 5-foot-9 power-hitter with the women's volleyball team, had 32 digs, 23 kills, three stuff blocks, two aces and a 2.0 passing ratio as McGill split two exhibition games, defeating Manitoba 3-1 (Jan. 3) and losing 3-0 to No.2-ranked Trinity Western (Jan. 2). The 22-year-old kinesiology junior is a product of Collège Lionel-Groulx.
Vachon, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound centre with the hockey Redmen, scored goals in back-to-back games, a 5-2 loss to No.10-ranked Carleton and a 4-3 overtime shootout loss to Ottawa, respectively. The 23-year-old mining engineering sophomore is third in the Redmen scoring race with a 6-8-14 record in 17 games. He is a product of the QMJHL's Drummondville Voltigeurs who graduated from Collège de Drummondville.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
