TRACK & FIELD (Day 1 Results): Three records tumble at McGill Team Challenge

One Canadian junior record and two meet records fell on the opening day of the 18th annual McGill Team Challenge track and field meet at the University's Tomlinson Fieldhouse, Friday.
The two-day competition, which concludes on Saturday afternoon, is the largest indoor track meet in Canada and features a record 792 athletes from 27 university teams,
Alex Bussieres, representing the Club Athletic Université Laval, set a Canadian junior mark in the 1,000 metres, clocking in at two minutes, 25.60 seconds, erasing the standard set in 2009 by Jeremy Rae (2:25.72) in Toronto.
The two meet records that fell were both in the women's relays. Western won the 4x200m in 1:40.74, surpassing a 16-year-old mark of 1:41.09 set by Waterloo in 1997. Also, Guelph claimed the 4x800m in 8:59.28, which bettered the previous standard of 9:04.81 established last year by Western.
The host team from McGill failed to finish atop the podium but posted fourth-place finishes in the women's 4x800 relay and the men's 4x200. McGill's top results are posted below, followed by complete results for each event. The competition wraps up on Saturday, beginning with the 60m hurdles final at 11:35 am.
