Hockey: Oles get hat-trick as No.2-McGill edges Concordia

MONTREAL - Leslie Oles of Beaconsfield, Que., continued her torrid scoring pace with a hat-trick, including the game-winner at 18:05 of the third period as the No.2-ranked McGill women's hockey team escaped with a 5-3 victory at Concordia, Sunday.
It marked McGill's 44th consecutive victory over the Stingers, since a 2-1 Concordia victory on Feb. 5, 2006.
Also scoring for the Martlets was sophomore Mélodie Daoust of Valleyfield, Que., and rookie Erika Pyke of Spryfield, N.S.
Oles, who leads the RSEQ conference scoring race with an 8-4-12 record in four contests, also put McGill ahead 3-1 and added the insurance marker 48 seconds after her winning tally.
McGill, which had a 44-17 margin in shots, jumped into a 3-1 first period lead but the Stingers tied it up when Veronique Laramee-Paquette of Mont Tremblant, Que., tallied midway through the middle period and Alyssa Sherrard of Bathurst, N.B., connected at 7:05 of the final frame. Kim Boismenu of Eustache, Que., also scored a first-period the season, marker for Concordia.
Goaltender Andrea Weckman made 17 saves to register her first win of the season. Concordia's Carol-Anne Pilon-Lavoie made 39 saves in a losing cause.
McGill is tied atop the league standings with the Montreal Carabins, Both teams are 4-0 and will cross paths for the first time on Nov. 2 at Arena CEPSUM. Concordia (1-4) plays at Carleton (2-2) on Nov. 3.
