Saunders and Blair named McGill athletes of the week

Chelsea Saunders of Ottawa and Joshua Blair of Franklin Centre., Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 18. 2012.
Saunders, a 5-foot-5 forward with the women's hockey team, scored a natural hat-trick and added a pair of assists as No.1-ranked McGill skated to an 8-3 victory over No.4-Montreal at McConnell Arena, Saturday. It was the first career three-goal game for Saunders, a 21-year-old kinesiology senior who hadn't found the net yet this season but broke open a 2-1 game by registering all of her markers in a six-minute, eight-second span early in the middle period, including the game-winner. She now has 12 points in nine contests, matching her career regular season total over her first three campaigns with the Martlets. She joined the Martlets in 2009 out of a Nepean high school.
Blair, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound centre with the men's rugby team, scored a key try as McGill defeated Concordia 24-18 to capture their seventh consecutive RSEQ men's rugby championship at Concordia Stadium, Sunday. The 21-year-old nutrition junior scored three minutes into the second half to put McGill ahead 19-6 and effectively put the game out of reach. Blair, who joined the Redmen in 2010, is a product of John Abbott College.
