Gifts for Children’s Hospital in memory of Erica Cadieux
Where’s Waldo books, bubbles, stickers, gift cards, puzzles, dinosaurs, arts and crafts material – all these things can help make things a little brighter for the young patients at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
The Concordia Stingers women’s soccer team will collect these items and more this Friday night at the annual Erica Cadieux soccer game versus the Sherbrooke Vert & Or at 8:30 p.m.
It is a night set aside to honour Erica Cadieux, a former Stingers soccer player who died tragically in 2006. She is survived by her husband Carlo Spadafora, daughters Bianca and Olivia, parents Roch and Yolanda Cadieux and sisters Sophie and Nini. Every year her family joins the Stingers for the emotional but spirited event.
Together they remember Erica, but they also use the occasion to help the young patients at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Small gifts will be collected for the Child Life Services Department. Here’s a link to the hospital’s Child Life Department’s wish list: http://bit.ly/1OuvOIe
These will be collected at the entrance, but can also be dropped off at the reception desk of the Concordia athletic complex, 7200 Sherbrooke St. W., through Oct. 2.
The members of women’s soccer team bring gifts as well and at the beginning of the game, Erica’s family comes to centre field to greet the soccer teams and collect the gifts. Afterwards, they present a plaque to the captains of the winning team.
In recent years, members of several other Stinger teams have rallied around the event and brought toys to support the Children’s hospital.
The Stingers won the 2014 edition if the game with an electrifying last minute goal to edge out the UQTR Patriotes 2-1.
The men’s soccer team will start the evening with a game, also versus Sherbrooke, at 6:30 p.m. The women’s game and presentations begin at 8:30 p.m.
