Reebok Shoot for the Cure in Mitchell Gymnasium
The Bishop's Lady Gaiters basketball team is getting ready to host the second annual Reebok Shoot for the Cure basketball tournament. The event takes place October 12-14 in Mitchell Gymnasium. All proceeds from the event go to help the fight against breast cancer.
There are three teams competing in the event alongside the Gaiters. The defending champion Montreal Dynamo are back along with the Queen's University Gaels. Joining the three retuning teams this year are the Montreal Express.
Similar to a year ago all proceeds from the event will go to help in the fight against breast cancer. Admission to the games is by donation. This year there will also be silent auction to raise additional funds.
As has been tradition, the Gaiters will wear pink uniforms for all of their games.
For the first time, this year four local high school teams have been selected to shadow one of the competing teams. The younger teams will be able to follow and experience what it takes to play at the next level. The two local Cégep teams will also be involved by volunteering for the event. Both initiatives are thanks in part to Basketball Sherbrooke who along with the Women's Coaches Association are helping grow the event. It is all made possible as Bishop's University is the regional training centre for the sport of basketball.
"This is a magnificent event," said Gaiters head coach Alex Perno. "A lot of people talk about it. Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. The proceeds of the event are benefiting a great cause."
