Basketball | Gaiters to face NCAA powerhouse Syracuse

The Bishop’s University Gaiters men’s basketball squad is getting ready to play one of the most recognizable teams in college sports, the Syracuse Orange. The Gaiters and Orange will tip-off on Thursday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at the Champlain-St.Lambert gym.
The game will be the second of four the Orange will play on a Canadian tour.
Bishop’s is coming off their best season in over a decade as they made a run to the RSEQ championship in March 2013. They finished second in the regular season standings with a 10-6 record before falling to the McGill Redmen in the final.
“We have a goal of making it to the CIS Final-8,” said head coach Rod Gilpin. “Our preseason schedule sets us up to prepare us for that as we will be playing six teams that were ranked in the CIS Top-10 a year ago. By opening with Syracuse it not only will give us great exposure but it will also allow our guys to compete against one of the top college programs in North America.”
The Gaiters will wrap-up their week of training with a contest against the Syracuse Orange on Thursday, August 22. Opening tip is schedule for 7 p.m. at the Champlain St. Lambert gym.
