Basketball | Orange too tangy for Redmen as Syracuse doubles McGill in men's hoops

Jerami Grant of Bowie, Md., scored a game-high 17 points as the Syracuse Orange doubled McGill 80-40 in men's university preseason basketball before a capacity crowd of 848 in sweltering 33-degree Celsius (92 Fahrenheit) conditions at Love Competition Hall, Wednesday.
Grant was one of four Syracuse players to reach double figures in scoring, along with high-profile freshman guard Tyler Ennis of Brampton, Ont.
Syracuse, which reached the NCAA Final Four last spring, led 21-6 after the opening quarter, 47-16 at halftime and 61-29 after three stanzas.
Simon Bibeau of St. Bruno, Que., led the Redmen with 15 points, shooting 5-for-15 from the field, including a 4-for-12 effort from three-point range. The junior guard played a game-high 29 minutes and also made his only free-throw attempt, which came on the backend of a three-point play
Syracuse (1-0) will play Bishop's (0-0) at Champlain College in St. Lambert, Que., Thursday at 7 p.m., before heading to the nation's capital for games against Carleton (Aug. 23) and Ottawa (Aug. 24).
McGill (0-2), which dropped their 113th season opener 83-77 to Sacred Heart on Tuesday, will host Siena College, another NCAA Div. 1 program, on Sunday at 2 p.m.
