Gaiters Hoopsters Set For Last Home Games Of 2012
The Bishop’s Gaiters men’s and women’s basketball teams are set for their last home games of 2012. They will host the Laval Rouge et Or on Saturday, November 24 in Mitchell Gymnasium. The women’s tipoff is set for 6 p.m. while the men start at 8 p.m. The women’s hockey squad is also in action as they play a pair of exhibition games in Stanstead, Quebec this weekend.
The women’s basketball team (0-1) is coming off a loss to the Concordia Stingers (3-0) a week ago as they opened their season. The Stingers garnered some national attention as they continued to receive top-10 votes and narrowly missed getting into the poll this week. The Rouge et Or (0-3) are coming off a mid-week game where they hosted UQAM (2-1) on Wednesday. The Rouge et Or lost 66-62 in overtime. A season ago Bishop’s and Laval split their season series as both teams won the two games on their home court.
The Gaiters men’s squad (0-1) is coming off one of the toughest losses in recent memory. They let a 12 point fourth quarter lead slip away as the Concordia Stingers (3-0) stunned Bishop’s in their opener last week. Laval (1-2) is coming off a short week as they beat UQAM (0-3) 87-67 on Wednesday night in Quebec City. The Gaiters will look to exert revenge as the Rouge et Or ended Bishop’s 2011-12 campaign with a win in Lennoxville in the last week of the season. Bishop’s would have clinched a playoff spot with a victory; instead Laval went onto the post season. A year ago the teams split their four games each winning and losing a contest in their own gym. The Gaiters are looking for Mike Andrews (Oakville, Ontario) to continue his strong play as he scored 28 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and turned away six shots against Concordia.
