Basketball | McGill sweeps hoops semifinals, both Redmen & Martlets advance to Quebec final on Saturday

Adrian Hynes-Guery scored a game-high 24 points as division-leading McGill easily disposed of fourth-place UQAM 72-43 in a sudden-death men’s basketball semifinal at Love Competition Hall, Wednesday. Bishop’s knocked off visiting Concordia 70-63 in the other semi. The Gaiters will travel to Montreal on Saturday to take on the Redmen in the Quebec league championship game at 5 p.m., with the winner advancing to the CIS national championship in Ottawa, March 7-10.
In women’s playoffs, freshman Mariam Sylla scored nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds, as the top-seeded McGill Martlets survived a scare and escaped with a 54-47 decision over the visiting Laval Rouge et Or in an sudden-death semifinal. The division-leading Martlets advance to Saturday's league championship game, a 2 p.m. start against second-place Concordia, which won their semifinal 65-62 over third-seeded UQAM.
