Stingers basketball going pink this Friday
The Concordia Stingers basketball teams are proud to announce their participation in a Shoot for the Cure fundraising basketball doubleheader versus the UQAM Citadins this Friday evening at the Concordia gym.
The Shoot for the Cure campaign was launched by the CIS Women’s Basketball Coaching Association in the fall of 2007 and has been an overwhelming success. More than $600,000 in donations have been collected for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and other related charities. The Stingers have elected to give the money raised to the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.
T-shirts and cupcakes will be sold on Friday, and donations will be collected by members of the Stingers over the course of the evening which features a women’s game at 6 p.m. and a men’s showdown at 8 p.m.
The Stingers will also host three hockey games on the weekend and will continue to collect in support of the Shoot for the Cure campaign.
The 2013-14 Shoot for the Cure schedule is comprised of 50 events on 43 university campuses. The goal is to surpass last year’s total of approximately $110,000 raised. At the 2013 CIS national championship in Regina, a cheque for $90,450.62 was presented to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, while anadditional $20,000 was amassed by universities that elected to donate to local or provincial organizations.
