McGill to host Mounties in 5th annual "Fill The Stadium" game tonight
The McGill Redmen (0-2) will look to snap a 22-game losing streak tonight when they host the Mount Allison Mounties (0-1) from Sackville, N.B., in an interlocking game between the Quebec and Atlantic football conferences at Percival Molson Stadium in their fifth annual "Fill The Stadium" game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, Children, 12 and under are admitted free.
The contest, which is slated to be webcast live on SSN Canada, counts in both the RSEQ and AUS standings and the odds are in McGill's favour as Mt. A is on a nine-game losing streak and the Redmen own a 7-4 record in interlocking play with a 4-0 lifetime record against the Mounties. In fact, the six Quebec-based teams have a resounding 51-20 record in regular season matchups against the four AUS teams since the two leagues began playing each other in 2002. The RSEQ and AUS announced a new agreement last week to extend the interlocking schedule for another three years beyond this season.
McGill head coachClint Uttleyhasn't declared his starting quarterback yet but based on practice this week, it appears that a quarterbacking change is in the works.Ryne Bondy, a fifth-year senior from Richmond Hill, Ont., looks to be the leading candidate to get the start, ahead of seniorJonathan Collinand sophomoreDallon Kuprowski. Bondy, who got the call four times last year, hasn't started since a 58-30 loss to Concordia on Oct. 29, 2011 in a game where he established a single-game Quebec conference record with 65 passing attempts, which also tied the CIS standard.
Other RSEQ-AUS games this weekend, all on Saturday, feature Sherbrooke (1-1) at Saint Mary's (0-1), Concordia (1-1) at St.FX (1-0) and Acadia (1-0) at Laval (2-0). Bishop's (0-2) travels to Montreal to play the Carabins (2-0).
