Gaiters set to hit the links for the first time in 2015
SHERBROOKE, Que. – Royal Quebec Golf Course in Boischatel, Que. is the site of the first RSEQ University golf event in 2015 taking place on Aug. 25-26. Coming off a solid sixth place finish a year ago on the men’s side the Bishop’s Gaiters look to improve as expectations are high coming out of training camp.
Bishop’s will bolster a veteran line-up on the men’s side as four of the five team members are returners. Led by co-captains James Huxham (Beaconsfield, Que.) and Patrick D’Amour (Hudson, Que.) the Gaiters will look to lower their scores with the ultimate goal of finishing in the top four in the conference and punching their ticket the Nationals. Joining Huxham and D’Amour are juniors Will Lortie (Sept Iles, Que.) and Jake Sterio (Scarborough, Ont.). The lone newcomer is transfer Nicolas Dupuis-Gaudreault (Montreal) who competed for the St. Michael’s College Purple Nights a year ago.
Veteran Spencer Richmond (Perth, Ont.) will make the trip and compete as an individual while donning the purple and silver.
On the women’s side 2014 team MVP Lindsay Reid (Beaconsfield) returns for her fourth season. She will be joined by a pair of freshmen in Virginie Dupuis-Gaudreault (Montreal) and Zoe Whitfield (Calgary).
“We are really excited to get this year going,” said Gaiters coach Ashley Conn. “We have a great group of returners and had a really good training camp at Owl’s Head Golf Club last week. Our goal is to crack the top four. On the women’s side I certainly think that we can compete and turn a few heads. I’m really looking forward to getting going.”
The Gaiters are off to Royal Quebec Golf Club for the first RSEQ University event of the year. Following a practice round on Monday they will get the season started with their first round bright and early on Tuesday morning followed by the second round slated for Wednesday.
