Daoust and Oles combine for three goals as hockey Martlets tame Huskies in cross-border match-up

MONTREAL -- Leslie Oles of Beaconsfield, Que., struck twice and added an assist to spark a three-goal explosion in the third-period as No.1-ranked McGill skated to a 4-1 triumph over the visiting University of Connecticut Huskies in exhibition women's hockey at McConnell Arena, Saturday.
Teammate Melodie Daoust, who just rejoined the Martlets after a two-week stint with the Canadian national under-22 team, scored once and added a pair of helpers.
Daoust, a sophomore from Valleyfield, Que., broke the ice at 5:43 of the first but freshman Brittany Berisoff of Kelowna, B.C., connected on a power-play marker at 6:16 of the second to tie the score at 1-1.
Oles replied at 3:32 of the final stanza, then made the score 3-1 on the power-play at 5:19 with her team-leading 28th goal in 26 games overall.
Sophomore Katia Clement-Heydra of St. Bruno, Que., rounded out the scoring with her 20th in 29 contests.
Taylor Salisbury of Surrey, B.C., made 21 saves to collect the win for McGill, which had a 24-22 edge in shots, Sarah Moses of New Hamburg, Ont., had 20 saves for UConn, which features a roster with nine Canadians.
That was the 18th and final non-conference game of the season for the Martlets, who improved to 20-9-0 overall, including a 2-7 mark against NCAA teams. McGill, which sits atop the Quebec conference with an 11-0 record, has nine games remaining before playoffs and will resume league play on Jan. 18 when they host the Montreal Carabins (11-2).
