First race and first podium for Hannah Schmidt as a University athlete!

This event is a classic, attracting each year the Ontario and Quebec provincial teams, many American colleges and some of the best university skiers in Quebec. This year, Carleton University was represented by Hannah Schmidt, one of the 5 members of the new Ravens Alpine Ski Club and a first year student in criminology. The competition was tough as Hannah was facing skiers from Colby College, Middlebury College, the Quebec team, the Ontario team and other very competitive skiers.
After a respectable 8th place finish in the first run, Hannah bounced back in the second run to finish with a combined time of 1:47.84min, good for the overall second place. Hannah was bettered by Mardene Haskell (1st - 1:43.55) from Colby College and finished in front of Paige Whistler also from Colby (3rd - 1:47.92). Heidi Roussin from the Quebec Team (4th - 1:48.87) and Sierra Leavitt from Colby (5th - 1:49.89) completed the top 5. With only 8 days on snow for Hannah, we are enthusiast to see her ski this season! Hannah finished 5th on Sunday’s race.
The Ravens Ski Club will participate in Giant Slalom and Slalom races next week at Mont-Tremblant and Mont Saint-Sauveur. The athletes representing the school this season are:
